Rocket Stove Mock-up

10/19/2011 - 4th Day - Afternoon. Greetings y’all.  We are continuing work and testing on our model mass rocket stove.  This picture is just the mock-up of the "guts" to the stove.  We tested it and it works great.  Kelly has gone to get the pipe and other parts, and later today we should start building this thing in the barn.  The guts here will be covered in cob (a mud/clay/sand/straw mixture) as the heat mass.  The combustion chamber will be covered with an inverted barrel, and the outlet pipe for the heat will be encased in a cob bench.  If the stove works as good as we hope, it will be the model for the one we build into the cottage.  Stay tuned for more pictures and updates, and perhaps even some video as the stove/heater comes together.

It was quite cool this morning - about 44 degrees farenheit.  We hope to still have a month before first freeze, but in Texas you never know.

Peace,

Michael

Hello, This is completely unrelated to this post, but I read this article today. It reminded me of you and your worldview (I am reading your book right now). It was so well said I thought you might enjoy it. The title is "Debt Serfdom is now the New American Normal". http://charleshughsmith.blogspot.com/2011/10/debt-serfdom-is-now-new-american-norm.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+google%2FRzFQ+%28oftwominds%29

This is really awesome. I saw the one of the videos on the page you linked to and this really interests me. If I recall correctly, there is a version of a cast iron stove that Ben Franklin invented with a similar concept--basically burning the gasses from the burning process to get even hotter.

Keep us posted!

My brother in law put one of these together,(though not so big) on his porch just to show us. I'm sorry to say I didn't pay much attention because I happened in on it late & thought it was just the normal guys playing w/ fire for fun sort of deal. It was impressive & the concept does work though so keep at it!
