9/5/10 - The Lord's Day. Morning. Greetings y'all. What a week. On Thursday I drove up to Lubbock with my three daughters. We were getting the last bits of our stuff out of our old house in Smyer, and we were intending to rush right back home that evening. But as we were saying goodbye up there, I let Elder David Sifford's (whose truck I had borrowed) truck run out of gas on the front tank, and that is bad to do with a diesel truck. We were able to get it restarted, but we only made it a mile or so when the truck died. There followed two days of disaster after disaster as we tried to get the truck started so we could leave. After a long list of calamities that would be too long to name, and too numerous to recount, my dad finally drove us home yesterday afternoon and the truck was left to get towed to a repair shop. I'll keep you updated on how that goes.As you can see from the Fall Ranchfest donation thermometer, we have a very long way to go in only a bit over two weeks. Donations are really slow in coming in, and we have learned that even more people are planning on coming to visit. Like I said before, we're really going to need a hero or two if we are going to even get half of what we are asking for Fall Ranchfest. I also hope this serves as a learning tool for those of you who are still examining and learning about modern apostate "xtianity". A modern apostate preacher could raise $20,000 without even breaking a sweat by telling you to:
a) Ditch your King James Bible
b) Read your NIV selectively, focusing on all the treats "god" has for you if you will just give!
c) Realize that once you start giving abundantly, everything is going to go smooth for you, your job prospects will improve, the depression won't affect you, your hair will be more silky-smooth, and your skin will miraculously clear up.
We received a touch of rain while I was away, but the rain prospects pick up dramatically here towards the end of next week. We have arranged to have our blackeyed pea field harvested here in a few weeks when the beens and plants are dry enough not to clog up the machine. We are very much looking forward to that process.
I totally forgot that yesterday was International Bacon Day, because I was stuck in Lubbock and couldn't eat our own homegrown Bacon. I am soooo sad:
International Bacon Day or Bacon Day is an unofficial observance, often celebrated on the Saturday before US Labor Day (the first Monday of September). Some cultures, however, celebrate on December 30th, while others celebrate the day on the first Saturday in January after the new year.
Bacon day celebrations typically include social gatherings during which participants create and consume dishes containing bacon, including bacon-themed breakfasts, lunches, dinners, desserts, and drinks.
I can tell you though that breeding and raising your own organic pigs is well worth it, and the bacon we have is the best I've ever had in the world. It certainly would have been worthy of its own day. How did you celebrate Bacon Day?
Speaking of Bacon, these precious people (bless their hearts) are bacon apostates. They claim to have perfected the "healthy" way of cooking bacon. They say you suspend the bacon ABOVE the fat and grease so it doesn't get all that unhealthy grease in it, and that you cook it in a microwave... I'd rather staple myself in that fleshy place between the thumb and index finger than eat microwaved bacon cooked in any way, especially "above the fat". But that's just my opinion.
These people are "Bacontarians" from the Royal Bacon Society, and I don't think they would ever accept microwaved bacon.
By they way, 4 minutes ago as I was writing this blog, Danielle brought me two pancakes and a load of our own bacon. Do you believe in coincidences?
Your servant in Christ Jesus,
Michael Bunker

I had bacon and eggs today. Kate's eggs beat my mother's and my grandmother's any day. mmm.
You really should watch for that cholesterol. bacon is bad you! Especially since you're in your 40s.-sarc.
Mind you- i have continued to watch John commentary,- you had completely black hair 10 years ago.
The "modern apostate preacher" doesn't spend his days focusing on the "poor" of the earth, and there is a reason for that.
I like the Bacon Day, I never knew one existed. Maybe we can celebrate that next year! A replacement for some of the worlds religious holidays.
BTW,
You oughta give us a start to finish "how-to" on your bacon making. I've not yet butchered a hog, so properly making the cut for bacon, and then the curing or smoking process are things foreign to me. You seem to be pleased with the results of your process.
Bacon is so YUMMY! It is one of my favorite things. Do you process your own hogs? How do you cure the hams and bacon? We have 3 hogs here we have been raising here in KY all summer. They will be ready in about 4 - 6 weeks. Trying to decide if we could process one as it is really expensive here to have one cut up. We have done lots of deer but never a hog. Hope the Lord blesses you with the rain you need!
