6/16/10 - 4th Day - Morning. Greetings y'all. Ok, so I cleaned the lens on the Pre so the pics will be a bit better. So yesterday we were busy. We worked all morning, then in the afternoon we drove up to Cottonwood, Texas - about 35 miles north of here, and we picked blackberries at a PYO farm. The top pic is of Sarah filling her bucket. This farm, and this area, was one of the most beautiful I've ever seen, and I've been everywhere, man. Tracy pics berries in her cowboy hat that Petar from Norway left here...
Here (from far to near) Danielle, Tracy, and Jennifer fill buckets with whatever blackberries they don't eat...
In the next pic, Robert works berry hard to fill his bucket too...

There were lots of berries to pic...
Jennifer pics berries, and she was good at it - though in this picture she is "Popeing". Popeing is the term we use when the ladies headcover blows up in the back. We like the term "Pope-ing" better than "KKKing".
These next two pics are of our blackeyed peas coming up. The colors aren't really right in the picture, and the crop actually looks better than that, but here you go. We do need some rain though...
Ok, this last pic is of my Agarito berry wine after we just re-racked it into a 6-gallon glass carboy. This will sit and do its thing until probably September sometime, when it will get bottled...
I had a lot more pics to post, but it is taking too long, and I have to go. Today we harvest oats from the same farm where we previously harvested wheat. We will also be making a bunch of Blackberry Jam. I'll update and try to get more pics up tomorrow.Y'all be cool!

Ah! The joys of harvest. Our raspberries here in MN should be ready in a couple of weeks. We have managed to find quite a few places to pick raspberries, but blue berries take a little more know how to find. Can't wait til they're ready.
Praise the Lord for the black-eyed peas. Will keep praying for rain.

Good to see all the great work that all of you are doing. I enjoy reading your updates and seeing the progress that you're making. Dai-mine podcast...ski pajalusta (russian). Thank you and God bless. .
I like the modified coverings. The other day I was wondering what you did during sunburn season. Is this your fist attempt at wine making? It will be interesting to see how it tastes.
I also want ski pajamas like Mihai.
Peace and increase to you.

Thank you for sharing the harvest pictures. Mmm/nummy...blackberries~tasty rewards for the labor. Y'all look pretty content gathering them! Just picked my first raspberries 2 days ago and need to again today. Need Kris's knowhow about Blueberry locations though. My parents used to go with friends to gather those every year. My husbands favorite berry...thus blueberry pie, jam, muffins, pancakes, etc. when we buy them.
Will keep your gardens in prayer for abundant rain and harvest, Lord willing.

Todd,
I have, in my life, fermented just about everything. I was a brewmaster for several years before giving it up to do other things. I have not, however, ever made wine from grapes. I have made wine (or booze) from just about everything else. Most likely, when this year is through, I will still not have ever made wine from grapes. I am hoping to make about 10 gallons of wine from blackberries, to go with the 6 gallons of Agarito wine.
Fall Ranchfest guests will get to experience it.
Michael
